Chard branch attend HMS Ulster Reunion

Two members of the Chard RNA were  invited to attend the annual reunion of HMS Ulster at Torbay over the weekend of
24-27th October.
Shipmates Ron Allin and Dick Moon had both served on the Ulster eight years apart. Ron had served on the 1958-60
commission when he was a young seaman on the occasion of Ulster being guard ship supporting the Queen as she attended the opening of the St Lawrence Seaway. The ship still holds the record of being the warship having sailed at the highest point of any other warship in the UK  fleet. Dick (as a then Jnr Greenie) served on her in the 1968-69 commission when she was being used as a navigation training ship for trainee Navigation officers under the guidance of the then Lt/Cdr James Briggs.
It was good to see the now Capt: RN James Briggs and his wife Rosemary once more especially for Dick as he last saw him in 1969 just after he reached the age of man service and now years on he saw him again on the eve his 65th birthday.

The weekend was well attended and shipmates were made most welcome at the nearby RAFA club where their members were introduced  to the custom of Tot Time!!
