Chard Branch Visit Yeovilton

Chard Branch Visit Yeovilton

Old Timers visit time's past.
The Chard Branch of the Royal Naval Association spent a day visiting their past when they attended the
Royal Naval Air Station at Yeovilton on Friday 19th September. Members spent six and a half hours being
given an introductory talk on the development of the aircraft carrier followed by a guided tour around the
museum. Lunch and a well earned rest period in the Swordfish Restaurant was followed by free time in the
halls of the museum where members revisited areas of particular interest to themselves.

The day was most enjoyable, especially for the ex Fleet Air Arm members amongst them. To round off the
experience the group treated themselves to a pre-booked 'cream tea' before being driven back to Chard.

The next event for the association will be their monthly meeting at the Conservative Club Chard where they
will be entertained by the charity Soldier, Sailor and Air Force Association who will give a talk on their charity
work.  During the evening it is also hoped the Royal Navy and Royal Marine Charity will also attend to give a
brief talk of their support for ex Royal Naval and Royal Marine servicemen and women.  Chard Branch RNA
will then take the opportunity of presenting both charities with a cheque to boost their funds from the money
raised from their Armed Forces Day Band Concert held on Saturday 28th June when the community of Chard
and the surrounding areas when entertained by the RNAS Yeovilton Volunteer Band.
