On the 31st. of December, Plymouth Branch held our annual service of remembrance for George
Hinckley VC RN, at Ford Park Cemetary. 50 attended the service which included 3 generations
of his descendents, Great Grandson, Great Great Grandson and Great Great Great Niece, and
their families, a total of 9. The Branch was supported by The Plymouth and District Federation
of Ex-Services Associations, of which the Branch is a member. 12 standards were paraded, and
the service was conducted Rev. Peter Warland QHC, our Padre, in the recently refurbished
Victorian Chapel. At the beginning of the service, Peter presented George's Gt Gt. Grandson
Andrew Smith with a replica VC, on behalf of the Branch, which was gratefully received by the
families. A short service was held at the graveside and a poppy wreath was laid by his Gt.Gt.Gt.
Niece Rachael Connor. After the service everyone was invited to the visitor centre to enjoy
coffee, tea and soft drinks and a superb buffet laid on by John Boon and his volunteer staff from
the Ford Park Cemetary Trust and George's family, which was appreciated by all!
