No4 Area Standard Bearers Competition 2016

Chard shipmate Malcom Day once again held his February Sunday training sessions for the area's standard bearers at the Bridgwater Sea cadet Unit. This lead to  the training competition held on Sunday 28th February for all those having attended the sessions to show how they had improved over the weeks. The turn out to support the competition saw members travel 
to the venue from afar with approximately 30 people attending.
In all four standard bearers competed along with the newest novice entry to the system Chard Shipmate Paula Moon who performed for the first time under competition ruling and was put under pressure right from the start as she drew to go first. An excellent effort was given by Paula who as a result won the 'Jock Porteus Cup' for outstanding effort in training.
The competition was a close run event with Shipmate Jim Armstong,  Dorchester  running out in first place and receiving the 'Strudwick Shield', second place was Ben Cartwright, Portland with third place going to Mike Morton, Bridgwater and Dennis Matthews, Dorchester using the Ferndown standard winning the 'William Arthur Shield'
Judging on the day was carried out by Area 4 Life Vice President Charles H Thompson BEM MSM, Carol Walters, Ferndown and Tony Seal, Weymouth.
Adjudicators  Mick Arnold MBE, Ferndown  area 4 secretary, Jim Noble, Chard and Mick Glendenning, Bridgwater.
Prizes were awarded to the winners by area 4 chairman Ron Burdekin.
Refreshments were supplied by all attending but were pleasantly arranged and served by Jan Morton assisted by Josie Cartwright. Helen and Malcolm Day ran the raffle the proceeds of which along with the 'tot' money will be donated to the Bridgwater Sea Cadet Unit whose hall was given use for the competition.
