St Neots Branch presents Charity Cheques

Association to the aid at Social group A SELF-help social group for people who have lost their speech after a stroke or head injury has been given a £500 boost by the Royal Naval Association in St Neots. , The association went to the aid of Speakability after finding out about the group through its support for a member who had suffered a Stroke. . Ernie Page, from the association,

presented the money to Anna Bratby from Speakability, which meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the Medway Centre in Huntingdon.

Seven members of St Neots Royal Naval Association were present at the presentation, along with 18 members. of Speakability.

Association chairman Keith Ridley and president Tom Mumford described the priorities of the

Royal Naval Association and how they chose local good causes to support.

The donation topped off a year of fundraising by the St Neots branch which has seen them present more '- than £3,500 to good causes.

The association has already presented £500 to the Campaign for Tackling Acquired Deafness (CAMTAD) whose members are trained to explain the equipment available to people with hearing difficulties.

It also presented £500 to the Woodlands cancer treatment centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. Former Royal Marine Harry Bellars handed over the money to Macmillan nurse Mel Robinson who made a 10,000ft parachute drop to raise money for an extension to the Woodlands Centre. The association also helped to kick-start the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal by arranging a concert in St Neots by the Royal Marines concert band which led to a £2,100 donation to the Poppy Appeal.
