I wish to bring to your attention the current plight of the Falklands Veteran Warship HMS Plymouth. Named after the City of Plymouth and being full of Naval history, she is the last frigate from the conflict afloat and her wardroom hosted the Argentine Surrender of Alfredo Astiz. This year it was announced that she is to be scrapped. We cannot allow this historic warship to be destroyed. The HMS Plymouth Trust has been formed under direction of Captain Richard Tyrrell of the Navy Training Corps to fund a rescue plan for the ship. A permanent new berth has already been secured and we are now trying to raise the £400,000.00 to purchase and tow the HMS Plymouth to her new home. Sadly we only have a three month window to do this as part of the money needed is to bring her current owner ‘Peel Group’ out of the scrapping deal with a Turkish ship breaker. If we fail to do this in the three month time scale, the ship will be scrapped. We are now appealing Worldwide to all interested parties for funding toward her rescue plan. We feel a good place to start is at the Royal Navy Association who understand the importance of our campaign. The rescue plan would see HMS Plymouth being saved from scrap and brought to her new home in the North East of England. Once ‘home’ see would be restored to her former glory by volunteers, many of which are her former crew. Once open she would become a cadet training ship and floating museum and would also become a community based venue for a conference centre, restaurant and even a wedding venue. She would be able to offer educational and recreational activities to educate and train young cadets in fields of work that can secure a bright career for them in addition to being a family day out for all to enjoy. I ask on behalf of the HMS Plymouth Trust in association with  Navy Training Corps that you support our worthy cause and if possible consider making a financial donation towards saving this ship. If there are any questions you wish me to answer please write to me at the above address or alternatively you can contact me personally by email [email protected]

Yours Sincerely,
